Throughout the world, religion has been a dominant part of the world. There’s ma ny different religions a well. The most known religions are Christianity, Islamic, Hinduism, and Buddhism. However, there are also smaller religions that do their own thing. For example Taoism and Shintoism. Taoism or also known as Daoism, is a religion that was originated in China and Shintoism originated in Japan. With both religions originating in Asia, are there any cultural similarities or are they completely different? What are their motives or ways of life? The main question being, in what different ways does religion affect people's daily life?
“These books are compilations of ancient myths and traditional teachings that had previously been passed down orally.”
This religion and those who follow it, has a really strong belief that older generations are responsible for passing these scared texts and holy books down to the younger ages. These ways are one of the main traditions and culture to the Shinto religion. This helps to give an idea of what's most important to them and what keeps their religion together. Relating to the outside world, they could have been inspired by the folktales tradition. Folktales are stories originated from popular cultures, usually passed down generations to generations. Folktales typically has a message behind it and myths and ways in the holy books as well. Also, with the fact that folktales originate from popular culture, Shinto is originated from Japan. Japan is a group of islands, containing a population of over 100 million people. They are known well for their loud and unqiue culture. So, it could work that way. .
“The overall aims of Shinto ethics are to promote harmony and purity in all spheres of life. “
Shinto morals and ethics are are based on peace and unity. This is probably what they were taught from the holy books and sacred texts. From a previous quote, it has been said that older generations are to pass down the messages to the younger ones. The message or moral of harmony and peace being the most important that they constantly remind the younger generations. Most times harmony and peace means a happy and stress free religion.

“Taoists regard the Tao Te Ching as the essential guide to living a full spiritual and ethical life.”
Being similar to Shinto religion, Taoism's main priority is guiding their people to a valuable and spiritual world. Therefore, their culture is based mainly off of ethics and morals. What's interesting about this religion is that it's not like most. Meaning that instead of their sacred texts being myths and how things orginated or came to be, it is a guidebook for those in need of motivation or just values and views oflife.
"The common view of Daoism is that it encourages people to live with detachment and calm, resting in non-action and smiling at the vicissitudes of the world.”
Instead of looking down at the world as a sad place to live in, they are taught to not get themselves into that situation and just smile. Sometimes the world is a very unwanted and unpleasant place, therefore it gives off a negative reaction. However, the Taoism is taught to get away from that and find where they are wanted and where they belong. Also, it could also mean to live without regrets and just move on being happy. No one deserves a regretful and miserable life and Taoism encourages that. Being such a strong moral or ethnic, it definitely has to be in the guide book.
After reading a couple of the quotes that I did, these two religions promotes peace and unity. Seeing how harmonized they are, I would say that these people's spend most of there days being guided by the ethics and values they have been taught by the sacred text or holy books.
